Selling goods online has become a mainstream way to sell your product without maintaining a storefront, or in addition to selling things in person. The Amazon marketplace is an excellent and reliable way to get your products out there, but keep in mind that it’s not easy and you’ll have to dedicate time and effort to be successful. Follow these four tips if you’re starting out on Amazon.
Provide accurate descriptions
Customers want to know exactly what they’re buying. There should be no ambiguity in your product description. Describe the product’s material, dimensions, uses, and anything else that would give you an advantage over the competition. It’s better to include extra information than not enough information. Include photos of the actual product you’re selling, not just a stock photo.
Participate in fulfillment by Amazon
Fulfillment by Amazon is a program where you send your goods to Amazon to keep them in a warehouse and stock for you. You get the advantage of selling to prime members, and you don’t have to deal with the hassles of shipping or returns if something doesn’t work out. This gives you more time to focus on other aspects of your business.
Improve SEO
Amazon uses keywords in your product’s title to decide where to rank your product compared to other sellers. Keyword stuffing is an ineffective and outdated strategy to gain clicks. Include information such as brand, color, material, size, and quality in the title. You’re limited to 500 characters, so make them count. Keep in mind that Amazon SEO is separate from Google SEO. Utilize Amazon’s keyword tool to determine which long tail keywords users are searching for to reach the broadest audience. Don’t use the same keywords in the keyword field that you used in the title, because it won’t add any weight to your listing.
Respond to customers
How you respond to customer inquiries is just as, if not more, important than your product listing itself. Customers want to work with a company that communicates with them and aren’t afraid to give feedback in their reviews. Follow up with customers after they make a purchase and ask them to give you a positive review if they’re satisfied with the product. Amazon has strict requirements on how you conduct yourself, including requiring a response within 24 hours. Follow the rules to be successful.
